Hoi An Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999, sits on the Thu Bon River about 28 km south of Da Nang, and it is the main reason most people come. For a first visit we would stay within walking or cycling distance: Anantara Hoi An Resort is on the riverbank, Moire Hoi An is about a five-minute walk from the old town, and Namia River Retreat is on an islet a short bike ride away. If the beach matters more than the old town, Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai is on Ha My Beach, on the coast between Da Nang and Hoi An, and you will need a car or a transfer to reach the old town.

Thu Bon riverfront · near Hoi An Ancient Town
The resort is at 1 Pham Hong Thai Street on the Thu Bon River, a short stroll from the UNESCO-listed old port area, with An Bang Beach about 5 km away. Dining runs from the riverside Lanterns breakfast to Hoi An Riverside Restaurant and the pizza and tapas at Art Space, and there is a spa and an outdoor pool. We would suggest it to first-time visitors who want to walk into the Ancient Town and join river cruises, lantern-making and cooking classes.

Cam Nam, Hoai River · near Hoi An Ancient Town
IHG's first Vignette Collection hotel in Vietnam, converted from the former Bay Resort Hoi An, stands on the banks of the Hoai River in Cam Nam Ward. It is about a five-minute walk from the old town and about a 30-minute drive from Da Nang airport, with two restaurants, a bar, a boutique spa and a pool, and its rooms include pool villas. We would suggest it for travellers who want to walk to the Ancient Town but still have a pool at the hotel.
