Chengdu is the most fiercely contested luxury hotel market in southwest China, where everyday Sichuan street life and international designers' modern touch blend together. The densest cluster is around Taikoo Li, a walkable ring of luxury – The Upper House is set right inside Taikoo Li, with malls and old alleys at the door. Head toward Chunxi Road and you reach a shopping district with a cluster of long-established international five-stars. The five in this article were picked one by one from the Chengdu hotels on sale under our perks program, from relatively approachable to top-end, so you can match one to your budget.

Two Chengdu hotels are on the Michelin Keys list, and this article covers one of them, The Upper House, with one Key.

The specific perks are described under each hotel, and before booking we confirm them hotel by hotel before they go on the guest's confirmation.

The hotels are sorted by average nightly price from low to high, so you have a sense of the range as you read down.

Our full list of perks hotels (3,000+) is here: Global Luxury Hotel Perks List. It opens already filtered to Chengdu hotels, and we can check prices for any of them the way this article does.

Grand Hyatt Chengdu

Grand Hyatt Chengdu opened in February 2016 on floors 10 to 39 of the Qunguang Plaza on Chunxi Road, one of the few international-brand five-star hotels on this most central commercial pedestrian street in Chengdu, connected directly to the mall downstairs.

The hotel has 390 rooms, with interiors by Tony Chi & Associates, mixing a French country manor feel with western Sichuan culture. For dining, Salon serves European cuisine, No.8 specializes in Sichuan hotpot, Tea House is a tea room, and there are a steakhouse and Cantonese dim sum among seven venues in all. The banquet and garden spaces on the 10th and 12th floors total over 30,000 square feet, with the Palais ballroom and the outdoor French Garden terrace the usual event venues. The 13th floor has a gym and a heated pool, and Huan Spa has 5 private treatment suites.

If you want to stay in the middle of the Chunxi Road district, with a mall and the subway at the door, this is the best fit.

Reference price: the advisor-channel average is US$158 a night, US$474 for 3 nights, refundable. The public refundable rate for the same period is about US$148 a night, so the advisor price is about 7% higher, but the rate includes breakfast for two and a hotel credit, so it actually works out better. Booking through the advisor channel usually also includes a welcome amenity and upgrades subject to availability. Check the latest price for this hotel →

JW Marriott Hotel Chengdu

The heated indoor pool is open year-round, and the spa, sauna and gym are all there too.

If you're traveling with family, or need an executive lounge and a pool, this is the most worry-free choice in Chengdu.

Reference price: for most of the year (except certain peak dates), about US$127–163 a night before tax. For a November 1, 2026 check-in, the advisor-channel average is US$161 a night including tax, US$482 for 3 nights, non-refundable at this price. The public non-refundable rate for the same period is about US$153 a night, so the advisor price is about 5% higher, with the difference made up by the breakfast for two and the hotel credit included in the rate. Booking through the advisor channel usually also includes a welcome amenity and upgrades subject to availability. Check the latest price for this hotel →

Waldorf Astoria Chengdu

Waldorf Astoria Chengdu opened in July 2017 as Hilton's 200th hotel in Asia Pacific. It is in the in99 Plaza in the Tianfu New Area financial district, and its 52-floor tower is a landmark of the area.

The hotel has 289 rooms, decorated in an Art Deco style, and the Waldorf's signature clock and tiered crystal chandeliers in the lobby are the easiest details to spot. For dining, Brasserie 99 is the European restaurant, Limited Edition Grill is an American steakhouse, Infinite Luck serves Cantonese food (listed in the 2026 Michelin Guide), Peacock Alley serves afternoon tea, and the Wall Street Bar on the 52nd floor specializes in whisky and gin. If you value room space and a view from above, this is the best fit.

For a November 1, 2026 check-in, the advisor-channel average is US$164 a night including tax, US$493 for 3 nights, refundable. The St. Regis Chengdu

The St. Regis Chengdu exterior at night

The St. Regis Chengdu opened in September 2014, in the core commercial and luxury retail area where Tianfu Square meets Chunxi Road.

The hotel has 279 rooms and suites, decorated in a 1920s Art Deco style that weaves in traditional western Sichuan elements. For dining, Social is the all-day restaurant, Yan Ting serves Cantonese and Sichuan food, Yun Fu on the 27th floor has 4 private banquet rooms, Decanter is the bar, Vantage XXVII is the open-air rooftop bar, and The Drawing Room serves afternoon tea. If you like St. Regis's butler service and Art Deco atmosphere, this is Chengdu's flagship choice.

Upper House Chengdu

Upper House Chengdu courtyard rooftops and red lanterns

Upper House Chengdu was originally called The Temple House and was renamed Upper House Chengdu in October 2025 – Swire Hotels folded the three Houses of its House Collective in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Chengdu into the single global brand Upper House, its biggest brand consolidation in recent years. The hotel itself hasn't changed. It is still a Swire Properties development, set right inside the Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu district next to the thousand-year-old Daci Temple, with malls, restaurants and old alleys at the door, so you don't need a taxi into the city. It is the best-located hotel in this article.

The hotel was designed by Make Architects of the UK, which restored a Qing dynasty building as the entrance lobby and converted two other historic courtyard buildings into the MIXUN spa and tea room. The mix of old and new is what makes it so recognizable. The whole hotel has only 100 rooms, plus 42 serviced apartments, which is not large for a boutique hotel of this kind. For dining, The Temple Café is the all-day restaurant, TIVANO serves Italian, and Jing Bar is a jazz-age-style bar with a DJ booth. Swire Hotels has always talked about "Houses, not Hotels", an emphasis on a local, homelike feel rather than assembly-line chain standards, and this hotel is a representative example of putting those words into practice.

If you want the strongest design and a stay in the very middle of Taikoo Li, this one is unique in Chengdu.

Reference price: for most of the year (except certain peak dates), about US$337–362 a night before tax. For a November 1, 2026 check-in, the advisor-channel average is US$439 a night including tax, US$1,318 for 3 nights, refundable. The public refundable rate for the same period is about US$413 a night, so the advisor price is about 6% higher, with the difference made up by the included breakfast for two and hotel credit. Booking through the advisor channel usually also includes breakfast for two, a hotel credit, a welcome amenity and upgrades subject to availability. Check the latest price for this hotel →

Final thoughts

From Grand Hyatt's US$158 a night to Upper House's US$439 a night, the five Chengdu hotels differ in price by less than a factor of three, which is quite friendly for luxury hotels in a tier-one city, and each holds its own at its price. For something easy and convenient, look at JW Marriott Hotel Chengdu and Grand Hyatt Chengdu; for the brand's butler service and Art Deco atmosphere, look at The St. Regis Chengdu; for roomy space and landmark views, look at Waldorf Astoria Chengdu; for the strongest design and the Taikoo Li location, Upper House Chengdu is hard to match anywhere in the southwest.

The one worth singling out among the five is the Waldorf Astoria: a refundable rate that includes breakfast for two and a hotel credit, with a stay-3-pay-2 offer this year that can be stacked on top. Stacking offers like this is where the perks channel earns its keep.

These prices are the perks-channel rates we can get as an accredited travel advisor. They come with breakfast, a hotel credit, welcome amenities and other perks you can't book through public channels.

If one of these five appeals to you, book with us at the cash price to get these perks, with no membership to maintain and no threshold to meet. The perks are worth real money.
